Ownership
When you post a digital tattoo on Co:Create Ink, you retain ownership of the design and are responsible for posting the tattoo and its associated information. Even when you sell the digital tattoo, you still hold the rights to the design. You are simply granting the collector certain limited rights, which are explained below.
What rights do collectors get when they buy a digital tattoo?
When a collector purchases a digital tattoo, they receive the right to use the digital art in specific ways:
- For their own personal, non-commercial use.
- To resell their digital tattoo on a marketplace.
- To use on third-party websites for activities involving the tattoo (such as in online games or allowing only holders of digital tattoos to RSVP for an event).
For detailed information, please refer to our terms and conditions, specifically “Section 2. Sales of Tattoos; License to Rights of Art - Rights to Art Underlying Tattoos.”
It's ultimately your decision whether to ink a digital tattoo.
Benefits
There are several benefits to selling a tattoo as an NFT.
- Collectibles. Collectors can buy several digital tattoos, and then select when/if they want them tattooed.
- Tattoos as Art. Previously, tattoos were limited to being shown on the body. Now, collectors can also show off digital tattoos in digital form, such as online, in picture frames or as phone screens.
- Tattoos as Profile Pictures (PFPs). Collectors can let their tattoo be their digital identity, such as their profile pic (PFP) for social media profiles.
- Impulse Buys. Currently, it is difficult to impulse buy a tattoo, because the buyer has to sit and get tattooed. Now, a collector can impulse buy a digital tattoo, and then decide when/if to get it done.
- Cash Flow. The digital tattoo is purchased and paid for immediately. Financing can be provided to the collector through a service like Affirm. You then ink the physical tattoo if/when the collector decides to redeem the digital tattoo for it.
- Gifts. It separates the purchase of the design from the tattooing of that design. That means one person can buy a specific tattoo, pay for it, and gift it to a friend or sell it on a marketplace.
- Resale of Unredeemed Tattoos. A digital tattoo can be offered for resale. If a collector buys the digital tattoo, and later decides they do not want to get it inked, they can sell it. The new owner can then get the tattoo inked. Note, it is important that we do not market these as a way to profit from resale.
- Resale of Redeemed (or “Inked”) Tattoos. Inked Tattoos may become a collectors item. For example, imagine a celebrity buys a digital tattoo, and gets its inked. The digital tattoo’s status will change to reflect that it has already been inked. The owner could then sell the digital tattoo to a fan, who could have the bragging rights that they own the celebrity’s tattoo.
