What does tattoo aftercare look like?

How to take care of your new tattoo, with general aftercare tips for healing.

Always follow your Artist's aftercare instructions.

Every Artist has their own process for a reason. Your Artists instructions may be specific to the bandage they used, or to the climate your skin is healing in.

Recommendations vary from Artist to Artist. In general, here are common tips for fresh tattoos:

Keep it clean. Gently wash with lukewarm water and fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Avoid over-washing. Your Artist may specify which soap you should use and when you should wash the tattoo.

Moisturize. Apply plain fragrance-free moisturizer as needed. Don't over-moisturize. Your Artist may specify which moisturizer you'll need, and how to apply it.

Stay out of the sun. Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight while it heals. UV light from the sun can damage your tattoo.

Don't pick or scratch. Let any scabs heal on their own to avoid scarring or ink loss.

No swimming. Avoid pools, hot tubs, and baths until you're fully healed. Quick showers are fine.

Wear loose clothing. Stick to breathable, non-restrictive clothing to reduce irritation.

Trust and follow the aftercare guidance your Artist gives you, and message them directly in the app if you're unsure or have questions about anything.
