What does tattoo aftercare look like?

Proper aftercare is essential to how your tattoo heals—and how it looks long term.

Each Artist on CO:CREATE may have specific aftercare instructions based on their process and your tattoo’s details. Be sure to follow their guidance closely after your session.

General tattoo aftercare tips:

Keep it clean

• Gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap

• Pat dry with a clean towel—do not rub

Moisturize

• Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer or tattoo-specific ointment

• Avoid over-moisturizing to let your skin breathe

Avoid direct sunlight

• Keep your tattoo out of the sun during healing

• After it’s healed, use sunscreen to prevent fading

Don’t pick or scratch

• Avoid scratching or picking at scabs to prevent scarring or ink loss

Avoid soaking in water

• Skip pools, hot tubs, and baths until fully healed

• Quick showers are totally fine

Wear loose clothing

• Stick to breathable, non-restrictive clothing to minimize irritation

Follow your Artist’s instructions

• Always go with the aftercare guidance your Artist provides—they know what’s best for your piece
