Brief Introduction

I’m Kayla, a multidisciplinary artist based in Las Vegas. My main focus in art is tattooing, but my background in fine art and sculpture is what made me drawn to continue the practice of art. My love for whimsy and illustrative story telling is what brought me to seek work in unconventional industries where human connection was at the center. Although art is my whole world, I found myself losing the sparkle that made me love creating. Some call it burn out, I called it a lack of inspiration and overcomplicating of the practice. I needed a break from overthinking my art as well as a new environment and CO:CREATE came at the perfect time. I love using different parts of my brain while working here, it allows my creative side to take a break while still connecting with the community and industry I love so much.

What’s your role at CO:CREATE?

Welcome new Artists to CO:CREATE and help them get set up for success, making sure they understand how the platform works and feel confident using it to manage their bookings and connect with clients.

What's your tattoo origin story—how did you become an Artist?

After doing art my whole life, I was drawn to the community and industry and this alternative way of sharing art. I started my apprenticeship in 2021 and fell in love with the discipline and practice immediately. I’ve been tattooing for a little over 3.5 years now and have the opportunity to join the community at a time where tattoo artists push boundaries with their styles and I’ve been lucky enough to say I’ve been sharing my art and connecting with people in a unique and meaningful way since.

Why do you use CO:CREATE for booking management?

Through the years of being appointment only, I found out quickly that the admin process of tattooing was my biggest struggle. Keeping my emails and DM’s organized was a nightmare, but with a system like CO:CREATE I found that being organized made it so I could do a lot less back and forth with clients and made talking about projects fun again. Not to mention that being able to list Wanna Dos has been one of my favorite features, I get excited to see my pieces on my profile. Bonus points for making it easier on my clients to claim designs on a first come first serve basis.

What's something about being a tattoo Artist that most people don't realize?

Tattooing is SO MUCH more than being in the studio. Yes, a 6-8 hour work day to most sounds fine but when it’s 6+ hours of being hunched over and constantly aware of every move and decision you make, it takes a huge toll on the mind and body. Not to mention the hours of drawing, researching, and admin outside of the studio to prep for the actual appointment.

When you're not tattooing, what are you up to?

I’m very grateful to be part of the team at CO:CREATE on top of tattooing full time, but aside from “work” I love hanging out with my cats and loved ones, cooking/baking, and running (I’m not fast or a distance runner, but moving my body always makes me feel great).

What's a tattoo you're dying to do but haven't had the chance yet?

I’ve always wanted to do anything Godzilla related, specifically mid 80s iteration with the silly eyes and round face.
